New Revelations in Self-Driving Car Fatality

May 25, 2018

PARIS, Texas. According to U.S. News & World Report, a Texas law passed last September gives autonomous vehicle companies the right to test their vehicles on the state’s roads. The companies are not required to have a safety driver inside the vehicle. Texas passed these laws to make the state friendlier to economic growth and to draw driverless vehicle companies to the state. Yet, the recent driverless car fatality in Arizona has left many people worried about whether the vehicles are safe. New information about the accident has now come to light.

FDA Says Teething Medicines Aren’t Safe

May 25, 2018

TYLER and LONGVIEW, Texas. The FDA recently found that teething medications that contain benzocaine can be potentially dangerous to children under 2 years of age. Until recently, these medications were marketed for use on infants suffering from teething pain. Yet, according to the Associated Press and the New York Times, the FDA has recently found that gels and creams sold to alleviate teething pain in children may be dangerous and even deadly in rare cases. The FDA also adds that these potentially dangerous gels and creams have shown little evidence that they are effective. The FDA has also announced that it would pursue legal action against companies that don’t remove these products from the shelves.

Think the Blood Alcohol Limit for Texas is Too High? Blame Alcohol Companies

May 18, 2018

TEXAS. According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, 1.1 million drivers were arrested in 2014 for drunk driving. Among these drivers, some of them were truck drivers. It may sound absurd to think that a truck driver, who is responsible for driving a multi-ton vehicle would consider drinking and driving, but if you look at the headlines, you’ll see many cases where drivers were found guilty of drunk driving after a truck accident. Fortunately, the legal blood alcohol concentration limit for drunk drivers is currently 0.04.

“Phantom Traffic Jams” and Truck Safety

May 18, 2018

PLEASANT, Texas. If the phrase “phantom traffic jam” brings to mind ghost stories, keep reading. Phantom traffic jams are a unique horror all their own. You’ve experienced it. Can AI Personally Injure Us?

May 16, 2018

TEXAS. There are different types of artificial intelligence. There is the kind of artificial intelligence that allows you to perform a successful Google search, and that allows self-driving car companies to test their vehicles on roads, with relative success. AI is also responsible for other innovations. AI can now help doctors diagnose cancer and it can help investment companies pick the right stocks. Yet, there is another type of AI, one that has yet to be invented, and one that has many tech experts alarmed. This type of AI is known as artificial general intelligence and for many tech leaders, it is of grave concern. According to the New Yorker, Stephen Hawking warned that artificial general intelligence could result in the “end of the human race.”

Will Police Violence Lead to More Personal Injury Cases?

May 16, 2018

TYLER and LONGVIEW, Texas. Car accidents, drug overdoses, and slip and fall accidents are all major causes of injury. Every year, the Centers for Disease Control releases a chart outlining the major causes of accidental death, braking down the causes by age. In 2016, for example, unintentional injury was the leading cause of death for individuals between age 1 and 44. Among people aged 10 to 44, suicide is the second leading cause of death, with homicide being the third among people between the ages of 15 and 44. While counting the number of people who are hurt or killed due to a certain type of accidental injury is certainly one way to consider how a certain kind of injury affects Americans, there are other ways to gauge impact.
